AYMK - DIVIDED
RHETT RHODES
I feel anything but divided over my opinion of this track.
There’s always that song that comes up in your rotation; one that you gravitate towards out of feelings of raw emotion, nostalgia, or even pure joy garnered from scenario and scene painting through sound. As I started the beginning of Aymk’s latest single ‘Divided’ and closed my eyes, I started to instantly imagine I was laying on a trampoline on a warm summer night looking up at the stars as the melody of the bells/synths shimmered through my speakers.
From the top, Aymk is a pop singer and producer from Tokyo, Japan who has released a handful of ear-opening and uniquely melodic pop songs in the last couple of years. Most recently, Aymk released one of her most vibrantly angelic tracks to date earlier this year with the single, ‘Divided’. I was not expecting this song. As soon as the singing begins, the pop-melody grasps the listener after each word. It doesn’t matter what language you speak or what Country you are from, music in any form is universal as long as you’re captivated by it. The rounded flow, melody, and rhythm in the vocals gives you all the details you need to know about Aymk’s intended feeling.
Aymk proves that the talent is truly all there, as she showcases with Divided; the smooth and sparkling pop production orchestrated all on her own. The trap-style bass bumps in the instrumental behind hard-punching pop kicks that nod to the reverberated snaps that follow in rhythm. All of that is devotedly tied together by the trap/pop-ish hi-hats that accelerate harefooted throughout the track; even over breakdowns where the drums halt and the bells and synths hover and shine in the atmosphere of the track.
Overall, this new single Divided is without a doubt a persuasive, creative, and currently criminally underrated song that offers a fun and lively pop assembly that just about anyone could turn on and enjoy in any setting. I can hear this being blasted in a club, but I can also hear this while taking a walk, skateboarding, etc. This is one of those rare artists that you hear and think is great, and anticipate the day they finally decide to release something new.
Aymk’s ‘Divided’ is available on all streaming platforms, and the equally appealing video can be found here.
